Blizzard warning in effect for Winnipeg and Southern Manitoba

Environment Canada has issued a blizzard warning for Winnipeg and most of Southern Manitoba.
The heavy snowfall is expected overnight Monday from a system moving in from Alberta.
The weather statement added strong northwest winds will be gusting up to 80-90 km/h in southern Manitoba and the falling snow and strong winds will combine to reduce the visibilities to near-zero in blowing snow.
The conditions will move across southern Manitoba, starting along the Manitoba-Saskatchewan border near midnight before making it into the Red River Valley in the early morning.

Environment Canada says conditions will improve throughout Tuesday morning from west to east as the winds diminish.
Everyone that is planning on travelling overnight is advised to take extra caution due to hazardous conditions caused by reduced visibility. “Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow,” said Environment Canada.
Adding, “protect yourself from wind, cold and disorientation by staying sheltered, indoors or with your vehicle. If you become stranded in a vehicle do not leave. The vehicle offers a form of protection from the cold. A single person walking through the snow is harder to find than a stranded car or truck.”
