Thousands of Manitobans making mistakes on vaccine card applications: task force

Manitoba (CityNews) – Thousands of Manitobans eager to get their vaccination record cards from the province are incorrectly filling out their personal information.

And it’s causing backlogs, says the vaccine task force.

“Thousands have applied from their Manitoba vaccination card,” said Johanu Botha, operations, logistics and planning lead of Manitoba’s Vaccine Implementation Task Force in an update on Wednesday.

More than 8,000 of those people have incorrectly filled out personal information on their applications.

“The most common error of all that we’ve seen is that the last name a person enters does not match the last name on someone’s health card,” said Botha.

He adds that Manitobans need to make sure they put exactly what is listed on their health care card, even if they’ve had their last name changed via marriage.

As the province requires Manitobans to use the cards to get into various events, such as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers home opener, the Vaccine Implementation Task Force says all the name correction requests are creating a backlog and will cause a delay.

Botha added those who have applied and are still waiting for their physical card, the digital card can be used immediately.

For those attending the upcoming Bomber’s game, Botha encourages you to access your digital vaccine card sooner rather than later.

“Make sure that you can access your card easily or bring a readable high-resolution photo of the QR code, and don’t forget to bring a government-issued photo or ID,” he explained.

“This will allow the staff to check the name on your card, with your ID, to make sure you are showing a valid immunization card.”
