Update on Columbia Icefields crash investigation expected this fall

JASPER – Mounties west of Edmonton are expected to release more information on their investigation into a deadly 2020 rollover later this year.

On July 18, three passengers were killed when a glacier sightseeing bus rolled over in the Columbia Icefields in Jasper National Park.

There were a total of 27 passengers on the vehicle when it crashed.

In addition to the three deaths, 14 people suffered life-threatening injuries and 10 other people on the bus were hurt.

Jasper RCMP says detectives are still probing a fatal rollover but there’s no more information to be shared at the moment.

Originally the investigation was expected to wrap this spring, but now Mounties say that an update on the investigation is expected sometime this fall.

Shortly after the crash happened, investigators said they had ruled out a rock slide as the cause.

Nearly a month following the crash, some of the victims filed a class-action lawsuit against the operators of a tour bus involved alleging the defendants acted recklessly and unreasonably.

The touring company quietly started operating again earlier this year after adding seatbelts to its iconic red and white buses.
