Inmate dies while in custody at Stony Mountain Institution

STONY MOUNTAIN, Man. — An inmate incarcerated at a Manitoba prison has died while in custody, though it remains unclear under what circumstances.

In a release, the Correctional Services of Canada (CSC) say Clinton McGeough died on Friday at Stony Mountain Institution, a federal prison approximately 24 kilometres north of Winnipeg.

The cause of death has not been revealed.

The CSC say McGeough was serving a sentence of six years, seven months and 28 days for three counts of robbery with threats of violence. He had been at Stony Mountain Institution since Apr. 28, 2017.

McGeough’s family has been notified, according to the release.

The CSC is reviewing the cause of death. Police and the coroner will be notified.
