Man charged with arson in Sagkeeng First Nation house fire

POWERVIEW, Man. (CityNews) — RCMP have arrested one man in connection with a house fire on Manitoba’s Sagkeeng First Nation, 127 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.

Police have charged 44-year-old Quinton Courchene with two counts of arson-disregard for human life and two counts of arson.

On Monday around 12:15 a.m., RCMP responded to reports of a fire at a house on Highway 11.

RCMP say two men aged 19 and 25 were inside the residence when the fire started and were able to get out safely.

Officers searched the scene and located Courchene, who was taken into custody.

RCMP are investigating.
