Having a ‘dad bod’ considered attractive, preferred by Canadians: survey

By Joey Chini

CALGARY – Over 60 per cent of Canadian women would prefer being with someone who has an ideal “dad bod” over a man who is muscular or who has six-pack abs, according to a survey from Planet Fitness.

A ‘dad bod’–for those who don’t know–is a slang term for “dad body”, the stereotypical physique of a father, usually associated with rolly-polly features, a sizeable gut, and body hair.

The survey says a whopping 71 per cent of Canadians think a ‘dad bod’ is a sign of someone who is confident in their own skin. More than two-thirds (68 per cent) of Canadians say there is a universal acceptance of the dad body type, and more than half (57 per cent) of Canadians believe men with this body type have happier marriages.

Sixty-five per cent of Canadian women say they find dad bods attractive.

Planet Fitness says the survey was conducted at the end of May, among a nationally representative sample of 1,502 Canadians who are members of the online Angus Reid Forum, balanced and weighted on age, gender, region, and education.

For comparison purposes only, a sample of this size would yield a margin of error of +/- 2.5 percentage points, 19 times out of 20. The survey was conducted in English and French.
