Winnipeg School Division closing playgrounds as it moves to ‘critical red level’

WINNIPEG (CityNews) – Winnipeg’s School Division will be closing playgrounds outside of school hours for the duration of the ‘critical red level’ remote learning period.

The WSD stated it is moving to ‘critical red level’ and remote learning to disrupt the transmission of COVID-19 among staff and students.

A statement released by the WSD said “the closure is being made for the safety of our students (both in school and home remote learners) and due to increased use by community members during school hour. Signage is being installed to make community members aware of the closure.”

The move comes as the province’s deputy chief public health officer said modeling predicts the pandemic will get worse in the province.
