RED DEER – Having your hair and make-up done can give a good confidence boost and an Alberta senior, who has gone viral, is brushing up on cosmetology to help his wife who can’t do it for herself anymore.
The man, who did not want to be identified, is not your average beauty school student.
Delmar College of Hair and Esthetics in Red Deer says he arrived unannounced Thursday and asked if there were any upcoming lessons he could join. The school director, Carrie Hannah, asked him if he was free for a class right then and there.
He got an impromptu lesson in curling hair and applying mascara. A post from Hair Designs by Britney showing him learning has been shared over 100,000 times.
He’s understandably overwhelmed by the attention, so we’ve agreed to blur his face.
“He started to explain that his wife was struggling with her vision right now, and was struggling to curl her own hair and was burning herself. He really wanted to help her,” said Hannah.
“He genuinely cared. He knows his wife always cared about her appearance, and he wanted to help her.”
Hannah says this was a first in her 31 years in the industry, but it was one of her best days as an instructor.
“He just genuinely warmed everyone’s hearts and just really feel good. We really needed some cheering up, and he sure did it.”
Hannah says he was a quick study and took some time to get a quick trim before leaving the salon.
And judging by the comments on the viral post, he shared a smile with a few thousand more all while learning how to help his wife feel confident.
