New COVID-19 restrictions in place as Winnipeg moved to critical status

Manitoba’s top health officials announced Winnipeg would be moving into code red, due to a surge in COVID-19 cases. On Friday 480 positive COVID-19 tests were confirmed, prompting tighter restrictions beginning Monday. Mark Neufeld reports.

WINNIPEG (CityNews) – New restrictions are being put in place in Winnipeg, as Manitoba increases the provincial capital to critical status under the COVID-19 warning level.

Mayor Brain Bowman addressed Winnipeggers Friday afternoon, saying the city would be suspending all of its recreation and leisure programs and services, including Leisure Guide programming, and closing all City-owned and operated recreation facilities, gyms, indoor pools, arenas, and libraries until further notice.

The City of Winnipeg also said all weddings ceremonies that were scheduled at City Hall are being suspended until further notice.

Bowman added that the city is still waiting to hear from the province, regarding additional restrictions.

The restrictions from the city come into effect Oct. 31.
