16 people test positive in COVID-19 outbreak at St. Boniface Hospital
WINNIPEG – The St. Boniface Hospital is dealing with two outbreaks in its E5 and E6 medicine units.
An internal memo obtained by CityNews says 11 patients and five staff members have tested positive for the virus.
St. Boniface hospital is seeing another COVID-19 outbreak. CityNews has obtained an internal memo that says there are two outbreaks, on wards E5 & E6, with 16 positive cases total. 11 are patients, 5 are staff. On Friday, the hospital announced one outbreak with two cases on E6.

The memo from the hospital says an investigation is underway and outbreak protocols have been implements to help limit the spread.
No new patients will be admitted to the E5 or E6 units as a result of the outbreak.
St. Boniface Hospital director of communications says they're not answering questions about the outbreak today. When I asked why they're considering the outbreaks on units E5 and E6 as separate (two), she said they're early in their investigation and don't know how it started.

Visitation restrictions will follow the provincial guidelines, but the hospital is encouraging families to have virtual visits instead.
The communications director at the hospital said they wouldn’t be answering questions about the outbreak Wednesday.
The hospital, which remains open, says it is doing all it can to contain the outbreak.
