Two deaths, 44 cases of COVID-19 reported in Manitoba on Sunday

WINNIPEG (CITYNEWS) – Two more people have died of COVID-19 in Manitoba, provincial health officials announced in a release on Sunday.

A man and woman in their 70s from the Winnipeg health region were the province’s 39th and 40th death due to COVID. Both had previously tested positive for the virus.

Manitoba also reported 44 new cases in the past 24 hours. More than half (25) come from the Winnipeg health region.

There are currently 29 people in hospital and six in ICU.

The province has also identified four Winnipeg schools that may have been exposed to a person with COVID-19:

South Pointe School (615 Kirkbridge Drive)
Machray School (320 Mountain Avenue)
Technical Vocational High School (1555 Wall St.)
Windsor Park Collegiate (1015 Cottonwood Rd.)

The government is introducing new restrictions in the greater Winnipeg area.

Starting Monday, and lasting for two weeks, gatherings will be limited to five people. That will also be the maximum allowed to sit together at a restaurant table.

Beverage rooms, bingo halls and casinos will have to close, while restaurants, lounges, retail stores, museums and libraries will be limited to half capacity.
