Second wave has hit Manitoba, says Roussin

WINNIPEG – Manitoba’s top doctor says the province has officially entered the second wave of COVID-19.

Last week Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Canada was entering the second wave, but some health officials said their provinces, like Alberta and B.C., weren’t seeing that wave just yet.
Now, Chief Provincial Public Health Officer Dr. Brent Roussin says Manitoba is there.

During a news conference on Monday, when Roussin was asked whether or not Manitoba was in a second wave of COVID-19, he said that was a fair characteristic.
“I think when you plot out what we call an ‘epi-curve’ on this, you can see two distinct waves and they are behaving a little bit different as well,” Roussin explained.
“We see a much younger cohort in this wave being affected, we see much lower admission rates to hospital in this wave. So, yeah, I think it’s accurate to consider that term. We’re certainly in a ‘distinct period’ than what we saw in the beginning.”
The province announced 39 new cases of the virus Monday afternoon, with 22 of those in Winnipeg.

Thirteen people are in the hospital with COVID-19, seven of which are in the ICU.
On Sunday, nearly 60 new cases were found.
