Winnipeg police say a woman has died and five others – including a baby and a child – were sent to hospital after a crash on Saturday afternoon.

They say the collision happened after officers tried to pull a vehicle over, but it sped away.

Police say that “within seconds” the fleeing vehicle hit a second vehicle at an intersection.

Four people from the struck vehicle – including the woman who died, the infant and the child – were sent to hospital.

They say two people in the fleeing vehicle were also sent to hospital.

Police say the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba will take over the investigation.
