WINNIPEG (CityNews) – City workers that were temporarily laid off due to COVID-19 are being recalled as Winnipeg Transit gets ready to resume a full summer service schedule.
The city laid off some 120 transit operators and 41 operators-in-training when the pandemic hit.
Now, as ridership increases, those operators and trainees are being called back into work.
Transit service is expected to resume a regular schedule on Aug. 2, with a full weekday set being reinstated on Aug. 4.
For those currently using or planning to start using transit again, the city is encouraging the use of face masks while riding the bus or Transit Plus.
