Winnipeg drops on-street parking rates by 75 cents

WINNIPEG (CITYNEWS) – On-street parking in Winnipeg will drop $0.75 per hour beginning July 1 as the city hopes to increase the number of drivers using the spots.

Winnipeg residents currently pay $2.50 per hour to park their car in low-demand areas and $3.50 per hour downtown. Those rates will be reduced next week.

“Lowering on-street parking rates across the city is one of the key actions we’re taking to help benefit businesses, hospitals, residents, and visitors,” said Matt Allard, chairperson of the standing policy committee on infrastructure renewal and public works.

“I’m pleased that we can implement this rate reduction now, while we continue to work with all stakeholders on a progressive plan for parking in Winnipeg.”

The change will take six to eight weeks to implement.

Customers who pay parking using their mobile phones will see the decrease first. Paystations will be updated afterwards.
