More Canadians wearing masks, intending to get vaccinated for COVID-19

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It seems more Canadians are choosing to wear a mask in public as COVID-19 pandemic restrictions slowly ease.
And while intentions to get vaccinated are also up slightly compared to last week, the latest poll from Leger finds they are far from universal.
About two-thirds of Canadians asked (68%) say they intend to get the vaccine against COVID-19 once it becomes available, with 16 per cent saying they do not and another 16 per cent saying they are unsure or prefer not to answer.
Leger finds vaccination intentions are highest in Atlantic-Canada (81%) and slightly above the national average in British Columbia (69%).
Half of British Columbians (49%) asked say they now put on a mask to help protect against the spread of the coronavirus while grocery shopping and almost half (44%) say they do it while at the pharmacy. While at work, 14 percent say they wear a mask.
Country-wide, the Leger poll finds those numbers are rising, up about slightly (8%, 7% and 1%, respectively) since last week.
When asked about a potential second wave of COVID-19 in Canada, more than three quarters (76%) of respondents believe it will happen.
Four-in-10 think any second wave will be as strong as the current wave of the virus. Almost one-third (32%) believe it will be stronger, while one-in-five (18%) feel it will be weaker.
Leger conducted the poll from June 5 to June 7.
