50 per cent of Canada’s COVID-19 cases have recovered

OTTAWA (NEWS 1130) — Fifty per cent of the country’s COVID-19 patients have fully recovered from the virus, according to Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer.
A release from Dr. Theresa Tam says while the recovery rate continues to climb, she’s asking Canadians to continue following the rules and physically distance themselves in the weeks and months ahead.
It's a milestone in Canada's battle against COVID-19.

She says that while we remain cautious with our activities this spring, Canada can retain all the progress made to slow the spread of COVID-19.
Canadian labs have tested over 1,296,000 for COVID as of Sunday and an average of 26,000 to 28,000 people are being tested for the virus daily.
“These numbers represent what we know at this moment, and change quickly,” she says.
Tam is also calling the long weekend “bittersweet” due to the impact of the virus; she hopes measures taken now will make a difference in the months to come.
“We are all well aware of how much effort we have put in to plank the curve, and I know none of us is interested in giving up the progress we have made. That means we have to do this May long weekend a bit differently – and that is okay, because this is a uniquely Canadian holiday and we write our own history,” she says.
“So this year, by keeping our public health practices UP to keep the curve DOWN, we will be celebrating this May long weekend plank-style.”
