Calgary Stampede cancelled amid COVID-19

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – For the first time in its history, the Calgary Stampede has been cancelled.
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the fate of the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth has been up in the air. Organizers are confirming that in 2020, the show will not go on.

The first Calgary Stampede took place in 1912 and became an annual event starting in 1923.

Since then, the Stampede has never missed a year, managing to continue through major events like the Great Depression, the Second World War, and the 2013 floods.
Last month, the Stampede was forced to lay off about 800 employees because of the pandemic.

Meantime, organizers of Edmonton’s summer event, K-Days, have been forced to cancel the event due to the coronavirus.
