Police say Daniel Jensen, who is 33, was arrested on Wednesday and is also charged with assault for allegedly attacking the child’s mother.
Const. Jay Murray says Jensen and the mother were at a different location when an argument escalated into violence.
He says Jensen then is alleged to have walked to the north-end Winnipeg residence where the boy was sleeping and stabbed him multiple times.
He is still in critical condition in hospital.
Murray says it’s inconceivable to think somebody would target an innocent child.
