Live emergency training to take place at Winnipeg airport

WINNIPEG (CityNews) – If you notice an increased emergency presence at the Winnipeg airport on Tuesday, it will all be part of planned training.

Winnipeg Airports Authority Inc. (WAA) is holding a live emergency exercise at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport.

It will simulate an incident on the airfield with on-airport and off-airport emergency staff responding.

To maintain the learning outcomes, a timeframe is not being released, but the airport will remain open during the exercise.

Agencies taking part in the live training include Air Canada, NAV CANADA, Department of National Defence-17 Wing and Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Services as well as the RCMP.

Signs will be put up inside the terminal and travellers will be notified via social media if there will be any disruptions.

If weather concerns become an issue, the training will take place at a later date.
