Favourable weather changes Red River flood forecast

WINNIPEG (CityNews) – The City of Winnipeg has revised its outlook on flood planning on the Red River.

Due to a colder spring, the City now says peak water levels on the James Avenue gauge are expected to be lower than anticipated.

Originally, the city was expecting a peak of 20.5 feet but has adjusted to 19.6 feet.

The peak is expected to arrive in Winnipeg over the Easter long weekend.

Last month, the City said 123 properties that may be at risk of flooding, however due to the change in the forecast that number is down to 18 that might still need a dike.

Notices are being hand-delivered to those properties and will require a total of 14,400 sandbags.
