Trudeau should be ordered to committee to explain his actions: Scheer

By Cormac MacSweeney and The Canadian Press

OTTAWA (NEWS 1130) – The SNC-Lavalin affair continues to dog the prime minister.

“The time has come for the prime minister to come clean,” said Conservative leader Andrew Scheer on Monday.

He has put forward a motion, calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to appear at the House Justice Committee.

Scheer wants Trudeau to explain under oath his role in allegations his office attempted to pressure former justice minister and Vancouver-Granville MP Jody Wilson-Raybould to cut a deal with SNC-Lavalin so the company could avoid criminal prosecution.

Scheer says canadians should be outraged.

“Quite simply, what we’ve seen unfold over the last two weeks is a textbook case of government corruption,” he claims.

Previous prime ministers have declined committee appearances. Last week, the clerk of the privy council denied there was any inappropriate pressure.

Wilson-Raybould is expected to testify at committee either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Trudeau denies any improper conduct occurred and that any conversations on the prosecution of SNC-Lavalin were done with Wilson-Raybould knowing the final decision was hers alone.
