Schools are closed in the Seine River School Division due to the bitterly cold temperatures that have gripped Manitoba.
The school division, which is located in Lorette — a municipality of Taché, located 25 kilometres southeast of Winnipeg — consists of 16 schools. The board office is also closed.
Most of the province is under an extreme cold warning. Environment Canada said windchill values of -45 to -52 are expected across the region.
“These dangerous wind chill values will remain in place over southern Manitoba tonight with gradual improvement beginning on Thursday,” the national weather agency said.
Meanwhile, schools in six divisions in Winnipeg will remain open and school buses are running. The divisions include: 7 Oaks, River East Transcona, Winnipeg, Louis Riel, Pembina Trails, and St.James-Assiniboia.
