Five people charged following Friday standoff
WINNIPEG (CITYNEWS) – Winnipeg police have laid dozens of charges following a dramatic 12-hour standoff Friday.
Shortly before 4:30 a.m. Friday, police received a report of suspicious circumstances at a Tyndall Park home on Chudley Street near Magnus Ave. The original report to police suggested several people were in the home, including a child, and a firearm was possibly discharged.
Two people were taken into custody immediately officers’ upon arrival, but with more people inside refusing to come out the standoff began. Tactical support, crisis negotiators, School Resource officers, and the K9 unit were called in to help.

Twelve hours later the dramatic standoff came to an end with 13 people in custody and no injuries to the suspects or officers report.

After further investigation, detectives believe that there were three men at the resident in the early morning hours Friday planning to rob a woman with a sawed-off shotgun. They left the Chudley Street home and forced their way into a home on Flora Ave near Salter Street.
Investigators say they shot through a door, hitting the 23-year-old victim causing serious injuries. The three fled back to the Chudley Street house while the young woman was rushed to the hospital. She’s been upgraded to stable condition and continues to recover in hospital.
Back at the Tyndall Park home, police believe there was another altercation between one of the three suspects and a party-goer. When officers arrived at that home, two men including one of the suspects, exited the home and were taken into custody. A handful of teens also tried to leave the place, but police say they were threatened by another of the three robbery suspects and were forced to stay inside during the standoff.

Eventually, the other suspects were taken into custody and police found the sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun. Five people, including three minors, are now facing a laundry list of charges:
A 15-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:
- Attempt to Commit Murder
- Break Enter & Commit Robbery – Dwelling House
- Use of Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Ammunition
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a WeaponStore Firearm Contrary to Regulations
- Fail to Comply with Sentence (x2)
Edward Kenneth Munroe, 18, of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Aggravated Assault
- Break Enter & Commit Robbery – Dwelling House
- Pointing a Firearm
- Use of Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence
- Carrying Concealed Weapon
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Prohibited Ammunition Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Possession of a WeaponStore Firearm Contrary to Regulations

Lonny Lee Chudrick, 22, of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Aggravated Assault
- Break Enter & Commit Robbery – Dwelling House
- Forcible Confinement (x4)
- Use of Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Prohibited Ammunition Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order (x2)
- Possession of a WeaponStore Firearm Contrary to Regulations
Munroe and Chudrick were also processed on outstanding arrest warrants. Two others were charged in the standoff, but not in relation to the shooting on Flora Avenue.
A 16-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy of Winnipeg were both charged with of failing to comply with conditions. The 16-year-old was also processed on an outstanding charge of failing to comply with his sentence.
